After their adventures in Peru (in issue #19), Lassie and her friends fly towards Quito in a chartered plane on their way to the USA. The plane is wrecked by debris from a volcanic eruption.
Arrived at New York, Gerry and Rocky leave Timbu and Lassie at the hotel for a while. Timbu takes Lassie for a trip of city exploration.
Lassie and her friends go to Maine to visit Rocky's publisher, Mr. Carver, and his son Ricky. Ricky takes Timbu and Lassie on a sailing trip to catch giant tuna.
