Matt goes undercover and joins the Kingpin's gang, so he can steal the info Fisk has collected on the underworld. Kingpin catches him in the act and beats him senseless. During the Kingpin's exchange with the men holding his wife, Vanessa is apparently killed.
Daredevil becomes a monthly book with this issue. Mark Gruenwald credit on letters page. The copyright registration reports that the publication date for the issue was February 3, 1981. However, this is most likely the date the direct-sale variant first went on sale. The newsstand edition generally went on sale two to four weeks after the direct-sale variant, which was the edition that was sold through most comics stores.
