Maggie lets El Diablo Blanco know how a simple lie she told to brush someone off led everyone in her circle to think they were getting married. He then tracks down Danita before she left town to clear up the misunderstanding, revealing his face to her. Esther and Alvaro's wedding is back on.
Mario struggles with the literal personification of his muse as he gets into various predictaments after challenging her.
A devastating earthquake has hit Palomar, flattening most of it and killing dozens as its residents band together and help one another. Chelo finds out the shocking cause of her recurring stomach pain thanks to curandera Xiohmara. A trio of mob related killers posing as relief workers attempt to murder Gorgo but are foiled. Luba, realizing the killers were also after her, decides she has to leave Palomar in order to protect her family and fix once and for all the problem she thought she had escaped twenty years before when she first arrived.
Danita marries El Diablo Blanco and Esther marries Alvaro practically simultaneously. Maggie and Hopey reunite for the first time in nearly six years and go off together.

- God Mother Son - Hand drawn letters blown up to full-page size. In the reprint collections this is paired right next to the "Damn Fucking of a Bitch" page shown later on.
- Bob Richardson Part 3 - The white dog seen in the background through all chapters of the story is referred to as "Lone Dog" by one character early on in #48. In the concluding chapter later on it's referred to as "Lonesome Dog" and then "Bob Richardson" by Maggie.
- Chelo's Burden - Takes place a year after the previous Palomar story in issue 48. Not to be confused with the six-page story of the same name that was published in The Complete Love & Rockets vol. 2 (1986). Isabel "Izzy" Ortiz's appearance is an official crossover, drawn by Jaime and pasted into the two panels she appears in. Rather than her eccentric gothic look she's depicted as an elegant upper class woman with coat and necklace. The next Palomar-related story will be the story called "Toco" in Love and Rockets vol. 2 #6 (Winter 2002-2003). Venus, Fritz and Petra are seen next in parts of the six-issue New Love mini-series (1996-97). Luba is seen next in New Love #6 (1997) and then in Luba #1 (1998).
- Bob Richardson Part 4 (Conclusion) - The duo's first time together since issue 33 (August 1990). Their next appearance will be in Maggie and Hopey Color Special #1 (1997). Maggie does make an appearance before that in Whoa, Nellie! #2 (August 1996).
