Still quiet and weak, James is bullied by the camp's cook who takes every opportunity provided to torture the boy. As the years pass, James, now going by the name Logan, becomes stronger and fiercer as Rose constantly worries about the fundamental change in her companion. When Logan is accosted by the cook once again, he refuses to defend himself, instead running into the woods where he is set upon by a pack of wolves.
