The High Evolutionary sends his Gatherers to Wakanda to steal vibranium for his genetic bomb. Bill Foster, working at the High Evolutionary's base, manages to hide a note on the uniform of one of the Gatherers. In Wakanda, T'Challa defeats the Gatherers and finds the note. He contacts the West Coast Avengers. Just after they arrive, the Sensors arrive to steal the vibranium. During the battle Stack, leader of the Gatherers, is able to secretly steal a sample of vibranium. The Avengers leave Wakanda to investigate what is going on in the Savage Land.

Mockingbird, Moon Knight and Tigra arrive in the Savage Land. They learn about the restoration of the Savage Land by the High Evolutionary from Ka-Zar. They investigate and learn the High Evolutionary wants to detonate a bomb that will mutate all humans. During the battle Bill Foster takes a new serum which restores his growth powers and cures his cancer. Stack, leader of the High Evolutionary's Gatherers, returns with a sample of vibranium. With the final component in hand, the High Evolutionary flees to finish building his bomb elsewhere.

  • Heads You Lose -- ! - Evolutionary War crossover. Notoriously, this story eliminated all of Mantis' dialogue as part of Marvel editorial blackballing Englehart's attempt to add her to the West Coast Avengers' cast. This resulted in panels in which Mantis was the centre figure and had her mouth open but no speech balloon.
  • Tails You Win! - The Evolutionary War crossover. The Evolutionary War continued from Web of Spider-Man Annual (Marvel, 1985 series) #4. The Evolutionary War continues in The Spectacular Spider-Man Annual (Marvel, 1979 series) #8.
  • Unpublished cover to West Coast Avengers #14 - Unpublished cover of West Coast Avengers (Marvel, 1985 series) #14 (November 1986).
  • The High Evolutionary Chapter Nine: The Final Frontier - The story is told in full in Thor (Marvel, 1966 series) #134 and 135 (1966) and Tales to Astonish (Marvel, 1959 series) #94-96 (1967).
